The 4th has always been one of my favorite holidays. I have many fond memories of 4th’s past shooting firecrackers with my father, and then, as I became a teenager, the bigger, and more fun fireworks, with my (now) ex boyfriend and his brother.

This year was no exception for me in the department of shooting fireworks. My ex and his wife have a little girl about a year younger than my daughter (now 3) and we thought it would be fun to get together and let the kids play with some sparklers while we grown ups shot the fun stuff.

My husband and I loaded the car with the kids and headed to Stephen’s around 7 pm. While the boys were getting the mortar canons ready and playing with their geek toys, Christina, her mom, and I had a nice little chit chat while we watched the girls play. It’s so cute to watch them warm up to one another after not seeing one another for a little while.

The guys came back to the house and got us when they were ready to shoot fireworks, so we loaded up the girls and walked up to the large field on the front of the property, where Stephen had set up two 18-gallon buckets loaded with fireworks and mortars. Wow, was all I could think as I saw this massive display of just about any type of firework that one could imagine.

Christina was a bit concerned that Hannah might be afraid of the loud noises, and she was right. It frightened Chloe a bit also, so Christina and her mom took the girls back to the house and the rest of us, including Stephen’s mom, stayed out a while longer and shot some pretty amazing fireworks.

I hope that those of you reading this had a wonderful holiday.

Happy Independence Day 2014 USA…and to our troops who currently serve and to those who have served in the past, thank you for everything you do and all that you sacrifice for your country.
