In Memory of John Ed Glover 1922 – 2014
Retired Pine Bluff Police Department Detective Captain John Ed Glover, age 92, of Clarendon, former long-time resident of Pine Bluff, died Sunday, April 6, 2014.
Born April 3, 1922 at Randall (Cleveland County), AR, he was a son of the late Frank Glover and Sarah Jane Ward Glover. Mr. Glover served in the United States Navy during World War II, serving in the Pacific Theatre aboard the USS Mifflin. He also participated in the battle of Iwo Jima, Okinawa, and the occupation of Japan. After the war, he served the Arkansas National Guard for three years.
For 33 years, he worked for the City of Pine Bluff Police Department, retiring as Detective Captain after 23 of those years.
Captain Glover was a former member of First Immanuel Missionary Baptist Church, and currently a member of Clarendon Missionary Baptist Church. He was also a member of the American Legion, Woodmen of the World, and a lifetime member of the Arkansas Municipal Police Association.
Along with his parents, he was predeceased by two sons, Ronald Dean Glover and Robert Eugene Glover; two brothers, Maurice Glover and Frank Glover; and a sister, Eva Mae Lane.
Survivors include his wife, Billie Bradley Glover, whom he married on March 18, 1946; a son, Rick Glover (Cathy) of Clarendon; a daughter-in-law, Barbara Glover of Overton, TX; seven grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.
Visitation will begin Wednesday, 2:00 p.m. at First Immanuel Missionary Baptist Church, with the funeral service following at 3:00 p.m. Dr. David Harris and Brother Rick Glover will officiate. Interment will follow in Wesley Chapel Cemetery by Fuller Hale-South Funeral Services.
There will be an honor guard from the Pine Bluff Police Department in recognition of Captain Glover’s many years of service to the community.
